About DeftGauge

DeftGauge is a free, growing suite of browser-based tools that help you test, measure and calibrate your devices — your screen, camera, microphone, keyboard, mouse and motion sensors. Whatever you are checking, the goal is the same: give you a fast, accurate answer without the friction.

Why we built it

Most simple utilities — a dead pixel test, an online ruler, a mic check — live on pages that bury a tiny tool under clutter and make you hunt for the button. We thought that was backwards. DeftGauge puts the tool first: clean pages, clear guidance on what to look for, and tests that work the moment you arrive. Today there are 26 tools and we keep adding more.

What makes DeftGauge different

  • Runs in your browser. Tests use standard web technologies and run on your device. Camera, microphone and sensor data stay with you and are never uploaded to us.
  • Guided, not guesswork. Each tool explains what a healthy result looks like, so you can tell a real fault from normal behavior.
  • Built for every device. The tools are designed for desktops, laptops, phones, tablets and TVs, with touch and full-screen support.
  • Free and no sign-up. Every tool is free to use, with no account required.

What you can test

The toolbox spans display health (dead pixels, screen and color tests, refresh rate), screen information (resolution, PPI, aspect ratio and size), measuring and calibration (ruler, protractor, level, compass), input devices (keyboard, mouse, click and scroll tests), camera and audio (webcam, mic, decibel meter, mirror), and browser and network checks. Each tool lives on its own page so it is quick to find and easy to share.

How it stays free

DeftGauge is supported by advertising, which lets us keep every tool free for everyone. We aim to keep the experience clean and the tool front and center. You can read how data, cookies and ads are handled in our Privacy Policy.
